Become a Volunteer

We welcome local and international volunteers to work at the centre during the day. Experience a different culture and exciting Tanzanian traditions, while actively working to help children and those in need. You will volunteer to actively participate in the work of the center, where we help to take care of orphans and street children and young people to a better life.

We have long-term and short-term volunteer programs. The short time is 1 hour and the long time can end up to 16 weeks.

What will I do as a volunteer?

Activities at the center include:

  • Help kindergarten educators teach math and simple English, numbers, teach handwashi, and ABC. After an introduction, you can teach on your own if you wish
  • Provide children with basic life skills that will expand their concepts of life and themselves. Language can be a barrier, but we hope it works.
  • Help children with their daily routine, such as homework, washing, brushing teeth, etc.
  • Helping to shine shoes at school.
  • Play games, sing songs, do crafts, do sports, dance, etc.
  • Help cook, wash dishes and tidy up kindergarten
  • Helping to hang up the clothes, every Monday [morning] and Friday [afternoon].
  • Help order and fix clothes in the boys and girls store.
  • Help the center with administrative tasks (finances, reports, etc.)
  • Any other task one may assign to management.
  • Your own ideas are always welcome.

Activities for volunteers outside the center (at home/online):

  • Resource Mobilization: Help the centre raise funds. We depend on donations from organizations and supporters. We have many projects to do. E.g. food, school swings, stationery, uniforms, shoes and utensils, agriculture.
  • Write letters requesting food and other needs from organizations, p. ex. Local and international organizations.
  • Any other task one may assign to management.
  • Your own ideas are always welcome.
Volunteer period:

You choose how long you want to volunteer. However, we recommend that you get at least 3 weeks. There is a great opportunity to travel around Tanzania during or after your volunteer work.

Guide and rules for volunteers:

Volunteers are always welcome at our center to share their talents and resources with the less fortunate children and youth in the center. We believe in creating a lasting relationship with all of our volunteers at various levels wherever they are.

Our services to these children and youth require that we work within government guidelines and regulations for Child Protection and Safety. Therefore, volunteers MUST respect general common rules and our local traditions.

Why volunteer on Kilimanjaro

There are many advantages to being a volunteer instead of a tourist. There is no better way to get to know the culture and people of a country than to be part of its society and offer a helping hand. You can go on a health care mission, join a women's empowerment project, or teach and stay with children and youth.

By volunteering, you will impact the lives of other less privileged people in their local communities and visit the sights of Moshi and the city of Arusha, including visiting some of the most famous national parks in the world. and the highest mountain peaks in Africa. This will also allow you to get to know the tribes and cultures, chatting with our friendly local people, who will teach you a bit of Swahili.

If you are interested on our work, feel free to contact us for more information and assistance.
