There are more than 1 million orphans and street children and youth in Tanzania alone. Being an orphan doesn't just mean going through the trauma of losing one or both of your parents to diseases like HIV / AIDS. They are likely to be much poorer, less healthy, less likely to go to school, and therefore likely to spend their entire lives in extreme poverty. Our number one goal is to fight poverty by helping children who live in very poor areas and who often lack the basic needs that all children deserve.

Although Tanzania is showing gradual development, poverty is still a big problem, with 68% of the population living on less than 85 pence a day. Much of the development that is taking place is concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural communities behind. Our centre is located in Kilimanjaro, Moshi, which is an underdeveloped area of Tanzania where self-sustainability is key but almost impossible due to lack of resources in rural areas. That is why our work here is essential.

Our centre provides children and youth with shelter, care, and regular nutritious meals, all of which are vital to the development of any child and youth. Children and youth will also be enrolled in excellent local school and training centers that will give them the opportunity for a better future. With the average male literacy rate currently at 75% and female at 60% within Tanzania, the access they will gain to education will ensure that they gain excellent academic skills and qualifications that will enable them to get a good job, lifting them out of poverty. cycle.

Why are they in our center?

Children and youth are at our centre because their home life is not a suitable environment for children and youth. Children and youth can have one parent or neither. Some parents have died from HIV / AIDS or from other causes, such as accidental death or other illnesses.

The center is there to provide shelter, food, care and education until they are ready to live their own lives. At home, some of these children and youth would hardly get a meal a day, while they had to work and take care of their younger siblings, resulting in malnutrition and delayed development. Putting the child and the young person in our center allows them to escape from this way of life and enjoy a full childhood.
